How to Get your Medical Marijuana Patient Card in Florida

In Florida, you can become a medical marijuana patient in three easy steps.

1. Schedule

Schedule your appointment with a licensed physician.

Only a licensed physician (M.D. or D.O.) can diagnose you and recommend medical cannabis. The physician must be licensed or certified to recommend medical cannabis.

2. Qualify

In Florida, to qualify to become a medical marijuana patient you must be a resident and be diagnosed with a qualifying condition.

You must be a season resident of Florida and have a qualifying medical condition.

Qualifying Medical Conditions

  • Cancer
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Medical conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to the others listed.
  • A terminal condition diagnosed by a physician other than the qualified physician issuing the physician certification.
  • Chronic nonmalignant pain caused by a qualifying medical condition or that originates from a qualifying medical condition and persists beyond the usual course of that qualifying medical condition.

3. Submit

Once your physician submits your information to the Florida Department of Health (FDOH):

  1. You will receive an email with a username and password to login to the Florida MMUR.
  2. You will need to apply and pay $75 to the FDOH

    • For online applications, FDOH accepts debit or credit cards.

    • If time is not of the essence, you can print and mail in your application

You can log in to your account on the MMUR website

Tips

  • To be eligible for seasonal residence, you must live in Florida for 31 consecutive days or more a year.
  • Bring your valid Florida state ID and 12 months of medical records to your doctor’s appointment.
  • Bring proof of residency that matches the address on your state ID. If these addresses don’t match, it may delay the process.
  • 7–14 days after you submit your application, you should receive an email that your registration is complete.
  • Your ID card will come in the mail soon. Until it does, you can use your Florida driver’s license or state ID to purchase your cannabis treatments.
